My mom and dad were anxiously waiting to meet me. As my due date neared they were getting everything ready at home so I would be the happiest little girl when I got home from the hospital. Saturday April 13th was an overcast day and mom and dad knew their days as a two person family were nearing an end. Mom had been having mild contractions for over a day by now and they decided to drive to Virginia to watch a movie since I more than likely would not be up for those sorts of outings for a few years. As they pulled into town around 4:00 pm my mom gasped “OH!” from the passengers seat. She thought that her water had broke. She called Auntie Laura who was working at the hospital to get her opinion. Laura at first said that I had probably just kicked my moms bladder a bit, but after a few strong contractions she said we had better come in to the hospital.
We were quickly checked in at the front desk and in no time a test showed that sure enough my moms water had broke. The nurses got mom all hooked up on a monitors to keep a close eye on my heart beat and on her contractions. Mom was having some pretty strong contractions at this point and was ready to get her epidural. The doctor had a different plan in mind and wanted mom to wait a while. So the next four hours were pretty tough on her. Dad was helping mom through the contractions by pushing on her lower back which sure helped a lot. After those long four hours the doctor finally gave mom the go ahead for the epidural. A quick poke in the back and in about 10 minutes mom could finally relax and let me start working my way down in much less pain.
Three hours later it was time for me to make my debut. Mom pushed for about 30 minutes and out I came at 11:35 p.m. with a head full of hair. I quickly got handed over to my mom for the first time. The look on her face was priceless as she snuggled me close and told me what a beautiful little girl I was.
After getting weighed and measured I grabbed a quick bath from one of the nurses and then was back in the room with my parents for the rest of the night. I quickly learned every thing I need to know. I am told I am a great eater, a perfect sleeper, and an accomplished pooper. I take all three jobs to heart and do them as best as I can.
Since I was born so late at night on Saturday we stayed Sunday night in the hospital as well. The next morning we were all excited to go home when we found out the I was Jaundice and had enough of that darn bilirubin in me to require a full day and night of that sweet tanning booth they have in the OB units.
I didn’t mind the tanning bed so much, but those googles they velcro around your head are very uncomfortable and I sure let them know I was not happy. Luckily a very nice nurse showed how to wrap blankets in a ring around me and mom and dad would make sure I had a full tummy and had drifted off to sleep before putting me back in the tanning bed. The rest of the day and that night went really well. The next morning after another needle jab in the foot I was cleared for street clothes.
It sure is nice to be home with my mom and dad. We spend all day and night together. We are so very happy to finally be the family we are.
